This building commemorates Maurizio Farina, who was born in Rivarolo in 1804 and became the city’s youngest mayor in 1834, when he was not yet thirty years old.

A central figure in nineteenth-century Rivarolo, Farina promoted initiatives in education, employment, and infrastructure, making a decisive contribution to the town’s development.

The work most closely associated with his name was the founding of the first Aporti nursery school in Piedmont, opened in Rivarolo on 1 July 1837 and entrusted to the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception, with the support of Mother Antonia Verna.

Inspired by the method of Ferrante Aporti, regarded as the father of nursery schools in Italy, the school was created to provide education and early instruction to children of every social background.

The present building was constructed by the municipality in 1871, and the plaque on the façade, installed in 1937, recalls the centenary of the foundation.
